PLEASE NOTE: this really isn't fanfiction, but I have this up more to let ppl know what I'm working on. The following is a sample from my current original work. Any updates will be posted here, as well as a miniature sample of what I'm putting on www.fictionpress.com. Please visit at some point and critique.
The students saw a relatively simple room similar to their old classrooms, albeit bigger to accommodate all 60 students. The walls were mostly bare, with only a couple webs in the upper corners that bore a collection of dust. It was well lit and a projector hung from the ceiling in the center of the room. It pointed itself at the podium in the front of the room. The podium itself was nothing special; it was fixed into the ground as a square pillar of wood, slanted at the top to hold notes, which was also empty at the moment. The desks themselves were nothing much, a simple chair attached to a table surface. They were lined up so that it was ten desks wide and six desks deep.
Please take a seat and pay attention, we have five minutes until your first lessons here start The class groaned as they started to pick their seats to their desks, which faced to the left of where they had been. Lycian walked up to the second row to the chair that would be slightly to the left from the center. He wanted to learn, but there was something uncomfortable about being right in front. Arlie had followed Lycian to the desk and promptly sat in the one to his left.
So much for getting out of studies huh? Lycian whispered to Arlie, who sat in the next row from him.
No joke He replied.
Lycian noticed that there were a few pieces of paper stapled together lying face down. He turned it over to look at it and saw his name in the upper corner. He looked at it in surprise, not sure if he should be amazed or suspicious about how accurately they predicted where he would want to sit.
Hey, why is my name on this!? One kid up in the front right corner said. Everyone looked at each other and then went to their desks, picked up their papers, and surprisingly enough, everyones paper held their name on it. There were some students that had simply flipped over the papers to see if their name was on it, but when they saw their name, they looked in shock and sat down there.
This is too freaky. Arlie said. How could they guess where we were going to sit?
Ecosystem balance plan? What the
Lycian said quietly as he read the top of the page of notes, but his voice trailed off, as did most of the class when the lights started to dim to a semi dull amount and the door in the front wall on the left opened.
A man in a white lab coat came into the room. He stood at an average height, but the way he stood made him seem like a giant to most of the class. He was muscular without being bulky, and his dark hair kept in a ponytail in the back. He appeared to be clean-shaven but what stood out were his eyes that were hidden behind clear coke bottle like glasses. Every time that some of the students, Arlie and Lycian included, looked at him, they wondered just what projects he did, for it was apparent that his intelligence showed through.
Welcome to our establishment class. If need be, you may call me a professor, but I answer more readily to Gene. I will be debriefing you on why it was that you were selected for this project, what it is that we hope to accomplish and what we want you to do. Before that, we do want you to come through this door as your name appears on the screen in the upper corner of the room here He points to the front right corner of the room where a projector apparently was displaying light, ready to work and display something. When your name appears, please get up, take your notes with you, youll still be able to follow along with us since there will be speakers and a monitor
Yes, I see theres a question. You there, ms
Loqua. What is it that well do in there?
As a part of your examination, well need to do a blood screening to make sure that you will be able to pass the requirements needed to continue at this point. Let me finish. He said as some of the students protested, raising one hand and an open palm facing them. I recognize that youve already had blood drawn before, but not all of the facilities you went to had all of the information we needed, and on top of that, you are undergoing physical changes regardless, so we need to continue to check and make sure nothing has changed.
Now with that having been said, The first name appeared on the wall, James. Let us begin. As you all know, we have found that there seems to be a difficulty with trying to find out a good balance between technology and the environment. We have begun to explore numerous avenues to try to keep a positive balance in our world, while still keeping the animals from becoming extinct. The first plan we had implemented, he continued to speak about the separation and containment of the technology areas, but as he did the first student came back out.
James walked somewhat steadily, however it was obvious his balance was slightly off and his pace was slow. There was a linen bandage going around his lower arm, just a little below the crook of his elbow. He held onto his notes and was eating a pastry as he tried to sit down. The next name appeared.
Hey
. You alright? Arlie whispered to the boy as he sat down in front of Arlie. All the boy did was nod his head and keep eating. Arlie shrugged and just leaned back in his chair as the professor kept talking.
hey had gotten to the second section about why there were there, after about two hours had passed, and most of the class had been through the door. Lycian still had yet to go through, but he started to wonder why it was that he still had to go. For the most part, the names had been appearing in a random order. It wasnt alphabetical, at least as far as he could tell by name, and it didnt sort out any origin or anything else.

Gene led Lycian through the door, and the corridor was only somewhat lit. They immediately turned right and there was a chair just twenty feet down as well as a monitor that normally would have shown the slides and movies the class was going through. The screen was off and the headphones attached to it were sitting on the armrest. The other armrest that it didnt rest on had a simple strap that seemed to be a little thick but flexible.
Please take a seat Lycian, we have to pull up your record and see what changes have occurred. Ill be on other side there after I put that test strip on your arm.
Lycian sat down, slightly confused and put his arm on the armrests. Gene then took both sides of the test strip and wrapped it around his arm in the same place as the other students. He tried to lift it slightly but the strip apparently was stuck to the armrest.
Dont worry, its not going to hurt at all, its just more advanced than you realize. Gene said upon seeing this. Lycian tried to relax a little as Gene stepped back and sat in a chair nearby, leaning back casually as the machine ran. He sat back as he felt a strange vibrating from the strip and tried to relax. After a minute, it stopped and he heard muffled speech from behind him.
Hmm, two wolves? Said the first voice. Lycian tried to listen more closely as the curtain moved slightly. Gene shifted himself in his seat and continued to watch, so Lycian closed his eyes and tried to hide his eavesdropping through his calm demeanor.
That's what it shows.
Wierd. There's not that many that were paired up like this. First there was that one girl just in front of him and then... He tried to say more but the other voice interrupted him.
Look, are you going to keep talking or do you have that syrum in yet?
Gene got up just then and told Lycian, I'm going to see what's slowing this down. It should have been done by now. He then went behind a curtain and the muffled voices that could be heard became quieter.
Lycian suddenly started to feel the slight vibrating from the strip again, and looked at it surprised. He couldnt move his arm at all before. He knew that now that it was already hooked onto his arm, it would be foolish to try to rip it out with the needles in and his arm secured. It would mean risking ruining his muscles or injuring himself in some way. He waited the minute it continued to inject whatever that syrum was into him and then it stopped.

"Do I look like I have a plan? The mob has plans. The cops have plans. You know what I am, Harvey? I'm a dog chasing cars. I don't know what I'm going to do once I've caught one."

Why do we worry so much, despite all the time we spend planning and preventing and it amounts to nothing when nature itself comes to play.
Life may throw lemons, but what will you do when you don't have anything to go with the lemons? Its a bitter drink.
